What is the actual cost of replacing a 2018 Model 3 battery?
Given threads I’ve seen on HV replacement shortly beyond power train warranty expires. I’d be hesitant with older cars (calendar aging is apparently a thing to consider as well). I’ll get downvoted to h*** for that because some do have much longer battery life - that’s true. I personally don’t want to gamble on almost 20k.

Tesla will install a referb for 15k but will sell a 3rd party a new battery for 22k. Is there an option for Tesla to replace it with a new battery? I would think the key to Teslas keeping their value, long term would be when your Tesla’s battery gets old, Tesla sells you a new battery for $10k, takes the old one on trade as a core.

But if the battery had lasted just 1-2 more years before falling the owners would be on the hook. Battery longevity and replacement cost definitely is a concern if you plan on keeping the car past the warranty or even close to warranty expiration. If you just plan on owning for 2-4 years then it's not much of a concern.

I replaced a Volt battery (16 kwh) and the dealership quoted me 7k to replace the failed third of it or 14k to replace the whole thing (including labor). I opted to buy a refurbished battery from a scrapyard with a 6 month warranty for 2k and another 3 to install it. The battery failed 6 months and 6 days after the install.
