The City of Hondo's population 9,305 is a diverse community, with an estimated 51% female (adjusted to remove incarcerated population) and 59.5% Hispanic/Latino citizens versus 39.1% for Texas and 17.3% for the U.S. An estimated 35.9% of Hondo residents speak Spanish at home.

The Hondo Police Department is committed, in partnership with the citizens of God’s Country, to effectively and efficiently provide the highest quality of professional police services by using innovative, proactive approaches to improve the quality of life in Hondo, while at the same time maintaining respect for the rights and dignity of all.

The Hondo City Council consists of six members, including the Mayor. All are elected at-large by Hondo residents. The Mayor and Council members are elected and serve for a three (3) year staggered term or until their successor has been elected and duly qualified.
