Sesame Street has a new streaming home. Netflix has picked up the children's series, which will make its debut on the streamer later this year.

Netflix is stepping in to save Sesame Street. The streaming giant has inked a deal with Sesame Workshop for new episodes of the long-running children's show, just months after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its output deal for the program in a strategic shift at its streaming service Max (which will soon return to being HBO Max).

Sesame Street, home of beloved Muppets like Elmo, Big Bird, and Abby Cadabby, is coming to Netflix for its next season after spending about five years on Max (née HBO Max, give or take a rebrand) and recently losing its contract with the service.

Sesame Street’s upcoming 56th season — as well as 90 hours of previous episodes — will be available on Netflix later this year. New episodes will also continue to air on PBS Stations and PBS KIDS digital platforms.

An HBO Max subscription is required to watch Sesame Street on the platform. Some social media users hoped that Netflix would allow viewers to tune into old and new episodes without requiring a subscription.
