Vice President JD Vance says Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency should rehire a staff member who resigned after he was linked to social media posts that espoused racism.

The DOGE staffer has been identified as Marko Elez, and earlier in the day he had controversially been given approval by a federal judge to access the U.S. Treasury’s payments database, along with a second employee working for Musk (pictured). While the judge did give him access, he restricted his ability to share data held within the system.

announced that he would rehire Marko Elez, a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee, who had been previously fired for posting racist comments. The decision came after Elez resigned on February 6, following revelations of the offensive posts, which were uncovered by The Wall Street Journal.

Vice President JD Vance on Friday morning called for the reinstatement of a Department of Government Efficiency staff member who had resigned after being linked to racist posts he made on X under a pseudonym — a position endorsed hours later by President Trump.

Earlier on Thursday, a federal judge approved Elez and another DOGE staff member to access the U.S. Treasury payment system.

The decision came after Vice President JD Vance and then President Donald Trump backed the reinstatement of the staffer, Marko Elez.
