The Edmonton Oilers are in a must-win scenario after dropping Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals, and the question of who will start in goal for the team still looms heading into Game 6.

Kris Knoblauch and the Edmonton Oilers’ coaching staff to roll with Calvin Pickard in Game 5 Saturday night didn’t quite turn out as planned. After entering Games 3 and 4 in relief of Stuart Skinner,

Greg Wyshynski of ESPN reported that the Oilers will be starting backup goaltender Calvin Pickard over starter Stuart Skinner in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This comes after Skinner was pulled in Games 3 and 4. Pickard notably backstopped the team to an overtime victory in Game 4.

Edmonton is benching Stuart Skinner in favor of Calvin Pickard for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final as the series shifts back to Canada. None of this is all too surprising. Skinner has been good, not great this postseason (2.99 goals against average, 89.1 save percentage) and was downright awful in Game 4.
