Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt on Sunday announced that a one-day state mourning would be observed on Monday, June 16, in the honour of former chief minister Vijay Rupani, who died in Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12.

Nayan Vagadaya had driven more than three hours to the Civil Hospital here after he heard that his uncle was one of the victims of the Air India plane crash, the country’s deadliest in almost three decades.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel met with the family of Vijay Rupani, whose final rites are expected to be held in Rajkot.

At least 269 people were killed when an Air India plane traveling to London crashed in Ahmedabad, India, an official said. Only one passenger survived.

Following the Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, which tragically killed 241 people, authorities swiftly responded by issuing death certificates at the hospital and recovering the aircraft's black box for investigation.
