The restaurant chains hiked prices for menu items containing eggs earlier this year as shortages from to bird flu outbreaks pushed the cost of a dozen eggs to a record high in March.

Due to bird flu outbreaks in January and February, egg prices reached a record high with a dozen of Grade A eggs retailing for $6.23 in March, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said.

That was when Waffle House placed a $0.50 surcharge on every egg ordered to tackle the wholesale prices. Five months later, egg prices have gone back to normal dropping from $8.17 per dozen in early March to $4.90 per dozen and Waffle House has officially put an end to the surcharge, taking it off the menu for good.
