An outbreak of bird flu in poultry in the U.S. state of Georgia, the nation's biggest chicken producer, is set to trigger trade restrictions from major meat importers, an industry group said on Tuesday,

Georgia officials have confirmed a first-ever case of the bird flu in a commercial poultry operation in the state.

A second commercial case of avian influenza, or the “bird flu,” has been confirmed in northeast Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

Poultry production is Georgia’s number one industry, but the recent instances of bird flu could cause major disruptions for farmers and consumers.
