The New Orleans Saints have used their second pick in the NFL draft on a quarterback amid lingering uncertainty about Derek Carr's future with the franchise.

The 6-foot-5 slinger out of Hamilton High School (Chandler, Ariz.)was part of the 2018 class, which included names like Trevor Lawrence and Brock Purdy. Originally, Shough committed to Oregon, where he eventually started seven games, but entered the transfer portal after that pandemic-gripped 2020 season.

The New Orleans Saints selected Virginia safety Jonas Sanker in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Sanker is now in the NFL after spending the last four years at Virginia. Jonas Sanker began his college career in 2021 and played nine games as a reserve that season.
