This game features two of the best defenses in the country. Ohio State is ranked No. 1 in total defense, No. 1 in pass defense, No. 5 in rush defense and No. 1 in scoring defense. In contrast, Texas is ranked No. 3 in total defense, No. 3 in pass defense, No. 14 in rush defense, and No. 4 in scoring defense. Both defenses have very few weaknesses.

The Buckeyes’ defense will be tested by the high-flying Longhorns, who are 13-2 and rank 21st in scoring. Texas lost to Georgia twice this year but bounced back to beat Clemson in the first round and Arizona State in the Peach Bowl, approaching 40 points in both victories.
