Almost exactly a year ago, Alonso announced that he would remain in charge of Leverkusen for the 2024/25 season. The former Spain international could still end up at Real Madrid eventually - possibly in 2026, when Carlo Ancelotti's contract as head coach of the Spanish giants expires.
