The first round of a four-day severe weather cylce slammed into Tennessee Wednesday night into Thursday morning killing at least four people.

Middle Tennessee faces severe weather with flood and tornado watches in effect, as NWS Nashville reports potential for excessive rainfall and thunderstorms.

Yet again, another round of severe weather is set to threaten the central U.S. with damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes starting late Tuesday and continuing through Thursday.

Dozens of tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in parts of Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri and Mississippi as storms hit those and other states in the evening.

As thunderstorms threatened to hit parts of the Midwest and South, forecasters warned of flash flooding and tornadoes.

Cheatham and Robertson County Schools will both be closed Friday as severe weather continues to play a significant role in the forecast. So far, Tennessee has seen several inches of rain and storm damage, and more is on the way, meteorologists warn.

With the threat of severe storms and flooding throughout the region, Middle Tennessee schools are canceling classes Thursday. Cheatham County Schools was among the first to close. The district said in a release that all extra-curricular activities and extended daycare will also be canceled.

As the Mid-South recovers from Wednesday night's severe weather, many Memphis-area schools are holding classes Thursday.

Videos posted on social media show significant damage and downed trees in the city, making some roads impassable.
