Fourth time’s the charm. There have been three past cinematic iterations of Marvel’s First Family, including the Roger Corman-executive produced, low-budget The Fantastic Four (1994), Fox’s bigger-budgeted Fantastic Four duology (2005-2007),

First Steps and James Gunn ’s Superman respectively hold very different positions within their respective franchises (the former is the 37 th movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and technically set outside of the canon;

Overall, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is Marvel's most unique movie in years (Shakman nailed it with Earth-828's '60s aesthetic), but it's too uneven to crown a “masterpiece” by their standards. Still, expect all of the “Marvel is back” quotes plastered onto trailers after opening weekend.

As is Marvel tradition, there are some hints at the end about how the Fantastic Four will show up in the next batch of big-screen MCU adventures. But for now, you won't think too much about the next steps.

The latest "Fantastic Four" reboot features a blend of retro aesthetics and superhero action in a space-age setting.

In his long interview with Variety, Kevin Feige addressed the MCU changing its release strategy in Phases Four and Five. After Endgame we were treated to a ton of content, both in theaters and on Disney+. The Marvel boss spoke about what happened, saying:

The Fantastic Four are taking their First Steps into the MCU, and it’s in the best movie in the series since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

Marvel Studios ruled the box office, setting the gold standard for superhero movies. The Marvel Cinematic Universe became the benchmark for success. But after the pandemic, the studio hit a rough patch.
