In Syria, Israel launched rare attacks on forces of the new government, while in Lebanon it took aim at the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.

Israeli military said it had begun striking targets belonging to Hezbollah's elite unit, the Radwan Force, in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon, as it accuses the Iran-backed Islamist group of seeking to rebuild its forces in violation of a ceasefire agreement.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Tuesday that ongoing Israeli military strikes in Lebanon were a clear message to Hezbollah, which he said was plotting to rebuild raid capabilities against Israel through its elite Radwan Force.

Opposition critics have denounced the proposal, with some likening the suggested site to a "concentration camp," which could lead to ethnic cleansing in the coastal enclave devastated by 21 months of conflict.

A planned “humanitarian city” inside Gaza intended to hold hundreds of thousands of Palestinians would be a “concentration camp,” former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has warned.

Ten people, including children, were killed in a strike at a water collection point in central Gaza, according to health officials. Israel is investigating the incident.
