Imagine if Apple made an iPhone 17 Ultra with multiple telephoto lenses, a huge primary sensor and an array of add-on lenses. I looked at Ultra competitors like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Find X8 Ultra and Vivo X200 Ultra to see what the iPhone 17 Ultra would need to.

Samsung may be among the first out of the gates, but it's certainly not looking as though it'll be the last. It would've been easy to include a basic camera to preserve the Edge's slim profile, but Samsung chose not to compromise in its latest phone.

The iPhone 16 was the world’s best-selling smartphone in the first quarter of 2025, according to Counterpoint Research’s Global Handset Model Sales Tracker. This also means that it is the return of the iPhone series’ base variant to the top spot after a gap of two years.

Apple improving its cameras to 200MP would be a pretty major jump, as both the iPhone 15 series and the iPhone 16 series have kept the same 48MP main camera. However, Apple has managed to get the absolute most out of its cameras, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max appearing in our best camera phones list.

If you’re judging by price alone, the iPhone 16e is the clear winner. It starts at $599 — almost half the cost of Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, which begins at $1,099 for 256GB or $1,219.99 for the 512GB version. At that point, you could just get a standard iPhone 16 for $799 and still have cash to spare for accessories.
