South Korea's impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol has been ousted from office by the country's constitutional court. Yoon was impeached over his imposition of martial law on Dec. 3 in a surprise late-night broadcast where he declared martial law in South Korea,

South Korea's Constitutional Court on Friday decided to oust President Yoon Suk Yeol, upholding parliament's impeachment motion over his short-lived imposition of martial law last year that sparked the country's worst political crisis in decades.

A large crowd of protesters erupted in cheers when the announcement came from South Korea's Constitutional Court. All eight of the judges on the court agreed that Yoon Suk-yeol had “violated the basic principles of a democratic state” and would be removed from office immediately.
