The man, listed as a special assistant for Sen. Cory Booker, was stopped right as the New Jersey Republican was preparing to hold the floor for his marathon speech.

"The staff member, 59-year-old Kevin A. Batts of New Jersey, was arrested for Carrying a Pistol Without a License. All weapons are prohibited from Capitol Grounds, even if you are a retired law enforcement officer, or have a permit to carry in another state or the District of Columbia," the statement continued.

Police said “a member of Congress” they didn’t identify helped an aide to Sen. Cory Booker bypass security screening. The aide later informed Capitol Police he was armed.
