At least 141 counties in Texas are under either a freezing rain or heavy snow forecast this Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. As of Jan. 7, the NWS’ forecast map places much of North and Central Texas under freezing conditions as Dallas-Fort Worth braces for a possible 3 to 6 inches of snow this week.

North Texas experienced snow, slush, and rain on Thursday. More snow is expected, tapering off by early Friday morning. Roads will improve as temperatures rise Friday afternoon. Travelers should avoid roads due to icy conditions.

Slick roads are blamed for several accidents in North Texas Thursday, including an 18-wheeler that jackknifed on State Highway 183 in Irving. It was dangling off the overpass as crews worked to remove the truck and reopen the road.
