Cape Canaveral, Fla. — A bitcoin investor who bought a SpaceX flight for himself and three polar explorers blasted off Monday night on the first rocket ride to carry people over the North and South poles.

The FAA has closed its investigation into the SpaceX Starship Flight 7 mishap, accepting the company's findings and verifying its corrective actions.

During the first quarter of the year, 27 orbital rockets took flight from Florida's Space Coast. That equates to a cadence of 108 launches by year's end — a record-breaking pace that would erase last year's record of 93 annual liftoffs.

Named Fram2, the three-to-five-day mission will not only feature the first flyovers of poles but will also include several scientific experiments. The mission will be the first time mushrooms are grown and space and will include the first X-ray performed on a human in space.

Chun Wang, a Chinese-born crypto entrepreneur, paid an undisclosed amount for the mission. Some satellites are already in polar orbit, and researchers called it a routine flight.

The airline’s first Starlink-equipped commercial flight has been scheduled for May, just eight months after striking the deal with the SpaceX subsidiary.
