In the handful of symbols that represent the LGBTQ+ community and Pride, the Pride flag is at the forefront. It’s impossible to think of Pride Month without imagining the iconic rainbow Pride flag.

Gilbert Baker created the original pride flag in 1978. Baker was urged by Harvey Milk to create a symbol for the LGBT community and he chose a flag, which he saw as the most powerful symbol of pride.

In 2023, House Republicans proposed a bill to ban rainbow flags and Black Lives Matter banners at embassies, with Rep. Greene calling such symbols “Hate America flags” in a statement.
