Some companies make money out of 'selling stars', or rather selling opportunities to name them, perhaps as a gift to a loved one. But is it really worth the money?

The International Astronomical Union – the official arbiter of astronomical names – has decided on 227 official names for different stars in the sky.

Astronomers discovered two ancient white dwarf stars in the Milky Way galaxy. They're surrounded by planetary debris, and one of these solar systems is quite different from ours.

In a yet-to-be peer-reviewed study, posted in the arXiv preprint server, scientists describe a white dwarf star about 104 light years away, which is primarily made up of carbon and metallic oxygen.
