Stellantis said that it would furlough 900 workers at five plants in the US and temporarily shut production in Canada and Mexico, marking the first major fallout on American automotive workers from President Donald Trump’s newly launched tariff war.

Stellantis reported another quarterly sales slide on Tuesday. The automaker, owner of the Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat brands, said its U.S. sales fell 12% for the first quarter of 2025 compared with the same period a year ago, from 332,540 to 293,225 vehicles.
Overall sales were down 12% for the first quarter, but the automaker said it was making progress with retail sales at dealerships.
