A delegation of governmental officials from France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, one of two regions that are part of the French Alps 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, is visiting Utah through Saturday during a broader trade mission.

Just more than a week before Sundance 2025 kicks off, the resort town has made the long-desired decision to make Park City ‘s often-congested Main Street car-free for the duration of the festival, which runs January 23-Feburary 2.

The public safety plan will increase police presence in high-crime areas downtown, in the Ballpark Neighborhood and the Jordan River area. The plan includes placing security cameras at parks, enforcing park curfews and improving responses to businesses affected by crime.

Salt Lake City unveiled a new public safety plan to address crime and homelessness. Initiatives would increase the police footprint, target gang activity and enhance affordable housing and emergency shelters. The plan emerged in response to demands from state Republican leaders who say the city is neglecting public safety.

Events to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be held at the state Capitol, the University of Utah campus, Ogden and elsewhere on Monday.

When it opens, Deer Valley Resort’s Lower Green Monster ski run will be the longest in Utah at 4.85 miles from top-to-bottom.
