The 911 calls made on the night a Novant Airlink helicopter crashed have been released. At least three calls were made moments after the chopper went down in a wooded area off Holly Shelter Rd. One of the callers indicated they knew the pilot and had been in touch with him by phone.

Current airport flight safety practices create an "intolerable safety risk" that could be eliminated by changing allowed separation distances between helicopters and airplanes, federal officials say.
NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy issued several safety recommendations to limit a helicopter route near Reagan National Airport after the deadly January crash.
The medical helicopter had left New Hanover Regional Medical Center and was returning to its base in Onslow County at the time of the crash.
