Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will be honored with the pageantry of a funeral in the nation’s capital and second service in his tiny Georgia hometown that launched a Depression-era farm boy to the world stage.

Thursday's services capped six days of remembrance for Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100. Following the honors in Washington, it was his wish to be buried in his hometown of Plains, next to his beloved wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter.

Jimmy Carter, who considered himself an outsider even as he sat in the Oval Office as the 39th US president, is being honoured with the pageantry of a funeral at Washington National Cathedral before a second service and burial in his tiny Georgia hometown.
