Israel launched an airstrike on Beirut for the first time since a U.S.-backed cease-fire took effect in November, amid growing frustrations among some American officials about the Lebanese government’s slow progress in disarming Hezbollah in the country’s south.

Israel's strike on Beirut Friday came hours after two rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Israel. Hezbollah denied it had launched them.

Israel bombarded Hezbollah targets in south Lebanon on Friday after intercepting a rocket fired from its northern neighbour, the Israeli military said, although the Iranian-backed militant group denied involvement in the incident.
