The Knicks are reportedly interested in tabbing Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd as the successor to Tom Thibodeau’s throne at Madison Square Garden, according to longtime NBA insider Marc Stein and ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The New York Knicks made the somewhat surprising move to fire coach Tom Thibodeau after losing in the Eastern Conference Finals. It's not often that a front office goes ahead and fires a coach who makes the conference finals -- especially for a team that hasn't made it there in more than two decades.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks are expected to formally request permission to speak to Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd about their vacancy “in coming days.” The Knicks delivered a shock to the basketball world on Tuesday when they dismissed head coach Tom Thibodeau after he led New York to its first conference finals appearance since 2000.
