Images from the city centre show lonely figures walking on normally teeming streets lashed by wind and rain, tents blow along Scotland's busiest shopping street, and the gates of Central Station are locked.

Storm Eowyn is causing chaos in Glasgow as winds of up to 90mph are expected this afternoon. Trains, buses and the Subway are all shut down and people were instructed by Police Scotland and the Scottish Government to stay at home while a rare red weather alert is in place until 5pm for the central belt.
