A massive Texas search and cleanup effort was set to enter its fifth day Tuesday in response to Guadalupe River flooding that surged through the area on July 4.

Over 100 people have died after heavy rain pounded Kerr County, Texas, early Friday, leading to "catastrophic" flooding, the sheriff said.

The Associated Press has assembled an approximate timeline of the 48 hours before, during and after the deadly flash flood, beginning with the activation of the state’s emergency response resources on July 2 — the same day Texas signed off on the camp’s emergency plan for disasters.

Search crews slogged through thick mud and debris Tuesday in central Texas, where more than 100 people are confirmed dead after catastrophic flooding. Pressure is growing on local officials to explain why more weren’t warned in time to escape.

The storms that battered the Hill Country for the last four days began to lighten up, although isolated pockets of heavy rain were still possible.
