A man was charged with a hate crime after allegedly using molotov cocktails to attack people at a Jewish group event in Boulder, Colorado, on June 1.

Soliman — an Egyptian national whose first name is spelled Mohammed in some court documents and who is in the U.S. illegally, according to federal officials — planned the attack for more than a year and specifically targeted what he described as a “Zionist group,” authorities said in court papers charging him with a federal hate crime.

FBI chief Kash Patel said the incident at a rally calling for the release of Hamas-held Israeli hostages in Boulder, Colo., on Sunday was a “targeted terror attack.”
