The scrutiny over Coke’s sweeteners began Wednesday, when President Donald Trump announced that Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Co. had agreed to switch to using cane sugar in the regular version of its beverage manufactured in the U.S.
The president’s comment about Coca-Cola switching a key ingredient comes at a time when the US health secretary has criticized the use of ingredients like corn syrup.
In a post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump said that Coca-Cola has agreed to use real cane sugar in U.S. production of the soda. Coca-Cola in the U.S. currently uses high-fructose corn syrup as its primary sweetener.
