OpenAI has launched an AI agent in ChatGPT, Codex, that can handle multiple software engineering tasks on behalf of users simultaneously.

OpenAI launched Codex, its third AI agent this year, aimed at assisting software engineers and novices with coding tasks. It can write features, fix bugs, and answer coding questions in a private environment,

Codex is integrated into ChatGPT’s web app to start, but it’s intentionally cut off from being able to access the internet to mitigate security risks. It’s powered by a version of OpenAI’s o3 reasoning model that is customized for coding and called codex-1.
