LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Clinton Presidential Center will be closed Thursday to honor the late former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. All other federal facilities will be closed after President Joe Biden designated Thursday, Jan. 9 as a National Day of Mourning to honor Carter. Biden also ordered all U.S. flags to fly half-staff throughout January.

As a member of the elite, informal club of U.S. presidents past and present, Jimmy Carter was uniquely positioned to do important work for his successors, whether Democrat or Republican.

Several current and former leaders from the Natural State also took to social media to remember former President Jimmy Carter and his impact on the world.

The last national day of mourning was in December 2018 to honor former President George H. W. Bush. To honor Carter, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, all federal offices will be closed on Jan. 9 in observance of the day of mourning.

When he began his presidential bid, Jimmy Carter vowed that he “would not tell a lie.” But historians say his honesty made it harder to get things done and stay in office.
