Central Display: This is the screen we've all come to expect in any new car, from the Tesla Model 3 to the Hyundai Ioniq 9. BMW still uses its touchscreen menu from the current iDrive, but now, up to six different widgets can be swiped from the display onto the windshield.

Coming first to its Neue Klasse EVs before spreading across the lineup, Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X features a three-tiered display and an AI-powered voice assistant.

This isn’t the first time that BMW has teased the new heads-up display called BMW Panoramic iDrive. The company showed off a version of it at CES 2023 in the iVision Dee concept, and it’s all part of the new platform called BMW Operating System X.

Gone is the traditional gauge cluster in front of the steering wheel. Instead, everything is projected directly into the driver's line of sight through the windshield.

The new "BMW iDrive" system, including windshield-length display, and "BMW Operating System X" was revealed Tuesday during the CES tech show.

The terminology, in typical Germanic fashion, is a little confusing. The entire system is called "Panoramic iDrive," with “Panoramic Vision” being the funky horizontal band display across the whole dash; meanwhile, the all-new software the whole enchilada runs on is named “BMW Operating System X.”

I hate cars that don’t have buttons, but BMW’s new Panoramic iDrive system looks so sleek, intuitive and personal that I might be willing to ditch them altogether. The first thing I noticed about the Panoramic iDrive system shown here at CES 2025 is the head-up display that projects content on an ultra wide panel that goes from A-pillar to A-pillar across the entire front of the car.

BMW has introduced the new Panoramic iDrive and Operating System X at CES. It combines infotainment with a customizable pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision display. Instead of using a knob, Panoramic iDrive relies heavily on the steering wheel.
