The showcase offered a look into what Nintendo gamers can expect from the company this year, showing a healthy mix of sequels, remakes and unique projects

The March 27 Nintendo Direct featured shadow-dropped releases of Disney Villains Cursed Cafe, Rift of the NecroDancer, and SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered. Shadow-dropping is when games are released the same day as their announcement, sparking surprise and excitement from gamers.

The new games, Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, are entries for franchises launched on older Nintendo consoles -- the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 3DS, respectively. Neither has had a new game in a decade.

Preorders opening the same day as the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct stream. Best Buy in Canada wrote in a now-removed blog post that the company will open pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2nd so that customers have the chance to secure their console early.

Before the countdown to the Switch 2 direct officially ends April 2nd, Nintendo has some games to get off its plate before we can begin the company’s next generation feast. Nintendo will host a 30-minute Direct showcase featuring games that will keep the vanilla Switch warm in the twilight of its last days as Nintendo’s premier console.

As Nintendo explains it, these virtual cards work a lot like physical cartridges. You can “eject” a game from one device and then load it onto another, so long as the second Switch is tied to your account or a member of your family plan.
