A 22-year-old man facing charges of scamming DoorDash drivers out of nearly $1 million was found fatally shot in New Rochelle on Monday, authorities said.

A 22-year-old man shot dead on Monday in New Rochelle had a Wednesday court date in connection to a nearly $1M scam ripping off DoorDash drivers.

Police say 22-year-old David Smith, of Mount Vernon, was killed at the Heritage Homes townhouse complex on Brook Street shortly before 11 a.m.

Smith was living in Mount Vernon, N.Y. at the time of his death. He moved there after Stamford police arrested him in June 2023 in what one investigator called a sophisticated phishing scam.
