The annual Labor Day parade in Charlotte was also canceled due to the threat of the COVID-19 outbreak, Charlotte's WBTV reported on September 3. The parade is expected to resume next year.

In 1894, 12 years after the first labor parade in New York, President Grover Cleveland signed an act establishing Labor Day as a federal holiday on the first Monday of every September.

The Cleveland Labor Day parade was created in 1971 by Mayor Carl B. Stokes and his brother, Congressman Louis Stokes. Ever since then, the parade has been a staple in the community.
