Coach Todd McLellan had a simple message for Red Wings players, support staff, and his own assistants after Saturday's game.

Todd McLellan has coached the Detroit Red Wings for six weeks, and sees progress — and the need for much more as playoff chase heightens.

In a span of 40 days, the Red Wings seem to have transformed into another team, moving up to the top wild card spot. They have fashioned two seven-game winning streaks and McLellan’s 15-4-1 record ties Mike Babcock for the best 20-game start with the club for a Red Wings coach.

Raymond, who will represent Sweden at 4 Nations, is tied for fourth in the NHL in assists and tied for sixth in points since McLellan's hiring. Larkin, who will represent the United States, is tied for fifth in goals and ranks ninth in points.

The Detroit Red Wings are enjoying their second 7-game winning streak in the 20 games since Todd McLellan took over as head coach.

The Red Wings (28-21-5) are 15-4-1 under McLellan, who said they’re close to forming an identity in the six weeks he’s been here.

Even Patrick Kane had to laugh and admit, “I’m not sure any of us really thought we’d be in this position right now, but what a spot we’re in.”

The news keeps getting better and better for the Detroit Red Wings since the club was opting to name Todd McLellan coach. The team his back home from its first four-game sweep of a road trip since 1996.

The turnaround has been staggering. The Red Wings are 13-4-1 since McLellan replaced Derek Lalonde on Dec. 26. Their 27 points during that span is tied for first in the NHL with Dallas (13-4-1) and Washington (11-2-5).
