STORY: China’s holiday travel rush got into full swing Tuesday. The 40-day Spring Festival saw airports and trains stations packed with travelers. After a total 8.4 billion trips last year, authorities predict 2025 will see a record 9 billion domestic journeys.

The 40-day travel rush, concluding Feb. 22, is expected to break passenger volume records in China's aviation sector. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) estimates daily passenger trips will exceed 2.25 million, supported by an average of 18,500 flights per day, an 8.4% increase from last year.

The annual travel rush for China's Lunar New Year celebrations officially began on Tuesday, with many taking a mental break from their worries about the future to reunite with family or take a holiday.

Nearly 120 million people are expected to be returning home after the holidays. Meanwhile, winter weather and storms are complicating travel. Nationwide, there were more than 7,000 delays. Kerri Corrado has more on the travel rush from Newark Liberty International Airport.

During Lv Yuan Er Hao's debut voyage, 165 new energy cars and trucks were ferried across the Qiongzhou Strait. Captain Huang Wanli said that the voyage, mainly involving the loading of logistics company vehicles, aimed to test operational processes and loading safety in readiness for upcoming NEV transport operations.
