The body of a 41-year-old ski mountaineer has been recovered after he fell over 3,000 feet off of Mount McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America, officials said.

Before the tragic incident, he had shared updates about his Denali expedition, including packing preparations, the flight to Alaska, and moments spent cooking with friends.

Alex Chiu, 41, was climbing along the West Buttress route with two others when he fell. His body was recovered two days later, NPS said.
