A West Sacramento police officer shot and killed a dog that attacked him while the officer was responding to an incident, authorities said Wednesday.

West Sacramento police were investigating the deadly Wednesday morning shooting in the 900 block of F Street, department officials said in a brief statement posted to social media. Officers responded to calls of shots fired to find the two dead.

Two people died Wednesday morning after a murder-suicide, the West Sacramento Police Department said. Police at 9:29 a.m. first reported that its officers were out investigating at F Street and Jefferson Boulevard but did not release details as to what the investigation was about.
