This weekend's winter storm has caused numerous delays on the road, but now it's causing another issue: power outages. More than six inches of snow fell across Kentucky and southern Indiana as the storm crossed the region.

Storm Blair ended up not creating too many power problems for utility companies in Clark and Floyd counties. Lisa Huber, government and community relations manager for Duke Energy, said the company prepared for the storm by bringing in contractors,

At the height of the winter storm, over 60,000 CenterPoint customers were without power. While some have been restored, there are still tens of thousands in the dark. CenterPoint says this could take several days to fully restore.

As winter weather approaches, SWEPCO and Centerpoint Energy are preparing for potential power outages. Crews are ready to respond.

Officials say while 61,000 customers have been impacted by Winter Storm Blair since January 5, more than half of customers have already been restored across CenterPoint Energy’s Indiana electric service territory.
