The Phoenix Fire Department has announced the death of one of its own. Captain Paramedic Anthony Mock has died after he was diagnosed with two rare forms of cancer a couple of years ago, the agency said on Wednesday.

Captain Paramedic Anthony Mock died peacefully after battling two rare forms of cancer over the last two years, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a statement. Mock's lifelong dream was to become a Phoenix firefighter. After his cancer diagnosis, Mock advocated early cancer screenings for his fellow firefighters.

PHOENIX - Phoenix Fire extinguished a brush fire on South Mountain that burned for several hours on Saturday, Jan. 25. The northeast face of the mountain was seen on fire, which could be seen lighting the mountainside orange in the night sky.

Firefighters thanked the Phoenix Police Firebird10 helicopter for lighting the way as crews worked to put out the fire.

Crews are battling a brush fire on the north side of South Mountain Saturday night. Details are limited at this time. Parts of Arizona were under Red Flag Warnings earlier in the day, but those warnings have since expired.
