Bernard Kerik, who served as New York City's police commissioner on 9/11 and later pleaded guilty to tax fraud before being pardoned, has died. He was 69. FBI Director Kash Patel said that Kerik's death Thursday came after an unspecified "private battle with illness."

Former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik, who led the department during the September 11 terror attacks in 2001, has died at the age of 69, according to the New York Police Department and a source close to Kerik.

It came on the same day a second arrest was announced in last weekend's attack in the Parkchester section of the borough. CBS News New York's Adi Guajardo reports.

The men wore masks as they held a knife up to the officer’s throat, then took his belongings, authorities said.
