Adding to the turmoil, the dumper's driver abandoned the vehicle on the highway and fled the scene. Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate the absconding driver, with police assuring that stringent action will be taken against those responsible.

The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Vijay Ramesh Chavan, a resident of Ghansoli, the Vashi railway police station official said.

The incident took place in the Juinagar area on the Sion highway and created a massive traffic jam, an official said.
