The Treasure Coast is under a heat advisory and many areas at “major heat risk” with heat index values expected to reach up to 108 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Memphis faces a heat wave with heat index values up to 109°F, prompting advisories for precautions against potential heat illnesses.

Sunny. High near 94, with temperatures falling to around 90 in the afternoon. Heat index values as high as 106. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

A heat advisory was issued for Brevard County and the surrounding areas of Central Florida on July 18 as National Weather Service meteorologists warn of above-normal temperatures heading into the weekend.

Saturday’s forecast also advises there is a slight risk of severe storms, with damaging wind gusts, over the northern area of central North Carolina on Saturday night. The highest risk is between 3 and 11 p.m. The heat wave may continue on Sunday, though a heat advisory has not yet been issued.

Update: The National Weather Service reports that a Heat Advisory remains in effect for our area on Sunday, July 20 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with Heat Index values of up to 110 degrees expected

The extreme heat warning remains in effect until at least Thursday, when the high temperature is expected to reach 98. Heat index values weren't immediately available Saturday for later in the week. The conditions, including high humidity, could cause heat-related illnesses, according to the warning.

The heat index could get as high as 111 in South Florida, with the strongest heat expected along the southern Gulf Coast.

The NWS is expecting a high of 98 degrees Thursday, which would be the hottest temperature recorded in the region this year. The Metroplex has not crossed into 100 degrees yet; the hottest day of the year thus far was 97 degrees on July 10.
