Experts say the change could put non-English speakers at risk of missing potentially life-saving warnings about extreme weather.

In February, during one of the scheduled downsizings of the federal government, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cut jobs at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) which in turn impacted the National Weather Service (NWS).

The National Weather Service has stopped providing language translations for its products — and experts warn that the change could put non-English speakers’ lives at risk when extreme weather strikes.
