Legoland began laying off 234 entertainment workers on Saturday at its Winter Haven theme parks, a notification to employees and Commerce Florida said.

According to reports Legoland Florida plans to lay off 234 of its workers, primarily performers. Reports state the move is to make Legoland more competitive in central Florida's theme park market.

The resort, which opened in 2011, said most of those who will lose their jobs in the coming months are entertainers.

With the holidays over, Legoland Florida is offering notice on an impending layoff of 234 employees primarily from its entertainment department.

The mass layoffs are permanent and scheduled to begin March 25 through April 7 at the Winter Haven theme park.
