The visit comes against the backdrop of an intensifying trade war between the US and China with President Donald Trump placing tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese goods, with levies on some goods possibly reaching 245%. China has hit back with tariffs of 125% on US products.

India reportedly plans to do away with duties on U.S. imports of ethane and LPG as part of its trade deal negotiations with the Trump administration.

While India dreams of becoming a new factory to the world, its manufacturers are struggling to find skilled workers, secure components and overcome red tape.
