Bayer Leverkusen’s star attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz is set to be out for several weeks with an ankle ligament injury in a further blow to the team’s already-difficult German title defense.

Bayer Leverkusen's attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz will miss Tuesday's Champions League Round of 16 return leg against Bayern Munich and will be out of action for weeks after picking up a ligament injury in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Bayer Leverkusen on Monday confirmed midfielder Florian Wirtz will miss "several weeks" with an ankle injury, including Tuesday's Champions League last 16 second leg match with Bayern Munich. In a statement,

Wirtz has the most assists for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season (10) and is also their second-highest scorer with nine goals, behind only Patrik Schick (16)

Wirtz's ankle was injured in a challenge from Bremen's Mitchell Weiser just 14 minutes after coming on at half-time.
